Millions of renters accrued billions of dollars in rental debt because of lost jobs and income during the pandemic. The federal government responded by allocating substantial funding for rental assistance that states and their local agencies managed. In this session, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia will explore the research behind rental debt and discuss some of the lessons learned from the design and implementation of relief policies and programs. They will also evaluate some long-term solutions for increasing rental housing security.
