In this talk, Sophie Calder-Wang, a doctoral student in economics who also is a Joint Center Meyer Doctoral Fellow, will discuss research that explores natural experiments created by local regulations that limit or ban short-term rentals.  She finds evidence indicating that restrictions on home-sharing produce modest declines in housing prices.  Moreover, the price effects are more pronounced for units likely to be more popular among Airbnb users, such as those that are closer to tourist attractions and/or smaller in size.
